Clueprint – Privacy policy

Last updated 28 October 2026

Clueprint is a murder mystery puzzle game for iPhone and iPad, which you can also play in your browser at clueprint.silentj.co.uk/play. This page explains what data the game uses and why. In short: your progress stays on your device, ads are provided by Google, purchases in the app go through Apple, and purchases on the website go through Stripe, which gives us your email address so you can restore them.

On your device

Your solved cases, daily streaks, settings, the case you're in the middle of, and how many extra cases you have left are saved only on your device. There are no accounts and nothing is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes your progress; your remaining cases are kept in your device's keychain so a reinstall doesn't reset them.

Ads in the app

Every case is made on your device, so you can play offline. When you're online, the app shows a banner at the bottom of the home screen and offers optional videos that unlock an extra case. These ads are provided by Google AdMob. Clueprint Unlimited removes them.

To show and measure ads, Google and its partners may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device type and how you interact with ads.

How Google uses this data is described in Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Purchases in the app

Case packs and Clueprint Unlimited in the app are bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details. The app only learns which item was bought, so it can give it to you. Restore purchases on the home screen brings back Unlimited on a new device.

Playing in your browser

The web version makes every case in your browser. Your solved cases, streaks, settings, the case you're in the middle of, and how many of this week's free cases you've used are saved only in your browser's local storage, and nothing about your play is sent to us. Clearing your browser's data for this site deletes them.

Purchases on the website

Case packs and Clueprint Unlimited on the website are sold by Stripe as the merchant of record: Stripe takes the payment, charges any VAT or sales tax, and sends your receipt. We never see your card details. Stripe's use of your data is described in Stripe's privacy policy.

When you buy something, Stripe tells us, and we keep:

We use these only to give you what you bought, count your cases as you use them, handle refunds, and let you restore your purchases. We don't send marketing email and don't share them with anyone else. They're stored in a database run by Cloudflare. We keep them for as long as your purchase can be used; email us to have them deleted (bought cases and Unlimited then can't be restored). Web purchases are separate from the app: they don't carry over to it, and App Store purchases don't carry over to the website.

Signing in. After a purchase your browser keeps a signed token that says which email address bought it, so the game knows what you own. Sign out on the game's home screen removes it. To restore your purchases in another browser, Restore purchases emails a one-time link to your address. The email is sent through Cloudflare. We keep a scrambled copy of the link's code, so it can only be used once, for 30 minutes, and delete it within two days.

Under UK and EU data protection law, we use this data because we need it to provide what you bought. You can ask us for a copy of it, or to correct or delete it, at the address below.

This website

This website is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, sees the requests your browser makes.

Ads on the website

The home page at clueprint.silentj.co.uk and the web game's home screen (never during a case, and not with Clueprint Unlimited) may show an ad from Google AdSense. To show and measure ads, Google and its partners may use cookies and collect information such as your IP address, browser and device, and how you interact with the ad.

In the UK, EEA and Switzerland you're asked first, with Google's consent form, whether you agree to personalised ads; if you don't, you only see non-personalised ads. You can turn off personalised ads at any time in Google's Ad Settings. How Google uses this data is described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Children

The game isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Ads are limited to family-suitable content.
